2015-04-07 18.18.57Hi Friends! Here is my April Julep haul.  On the left, you will see my secret store purchase (base coat, top coat, Maddy and Rockstar hand cream – I love it!) while on the right is my Maven box.

This month, I decided to take a gamble on the Natural Beauty Mystery Box as I have really been enjoying Julep’s makeup line and thought this would be a good way to try some more.

The Natural Beauty Mystery box was only $19.99 and promised 4 Beauty Products valued at at least $70.

2015-04-07 18.43.51The first item is already a favourite of mine! go BIG mascara is terrific.  It has become my daily mascara as it gives long, thick lashes without clumping! Value $24/$19.20 (Maven)

2015-04-07 18.43.35Next in the box was another favourite item that I use daily!

I received two gel eye gliders.  One in Bronze Shimmer and the other in Smoky Taupe Shimmer.  Both colours are gorgeous and I did not have either one yet.

Value $16 each/$12.80 each (Maven)

2015-04-07 18.44.06The final item was a Plush Pout Lip Crayon in Almond Nude.

I had been wanting to try these so I was thrilled it was included in the beauty box.  The crayon smells like vanilla and has a moisturizing center to it.  I found the lipstick glided nicely onto my lips and stays put.  My lips feel moist when I apply it.  This is a winner for sure.

Value $20/$16 (Maven)

This puts the entire box value at $76/$60.80 (Maven) for only $19.99!

Whenever you order from Julep, you get the option of adding extra items for a discounted price.  If you add 3 items, you get a free gift.  This month, I added on Danielle, a Utopia Mystery Polish (Hannah) and Ctrl Z Eye Makeup Eraser.

Danielle is a pretty duochrome blue with purple accent and Hannah is a lovely light green. They cost $4.99 each and are each worth $14/$11.20 (Maven)

The Ctrl Z Eye Makeup Eraser blew me away with how well it works!  You know when you are getting ready and everything is looking great but then you smudge your eyeliner? The Ctrl Z will fix it up with no mess or fuss.  I will definitely get a lot of use out of it! I got this free with my Jules (points you earn for being a Maven) and it is worth $10/$8 (Maven).

My free gift was Julep lip gloss in Vivid, a nice wine colour that smells like cookies.  It is worth $20/$26 (Maven)

I also received an email offer and got a free Luxe Lip Conditioning Treatment in Sheer Coral.  It is neat because it has a metal “cooling tip” and it is worth $24/$19.20 (Maven)

The swatches on my hand from top to bottom are: Sheer Coral Luxe Lip Treatment, Bronze Shimmer eye glider, Smoky Taupe Shimmer eye glider, Almond Nude plush pout lip crayon and Vivid lip gloss.

In the end, I spent $29.97 and received $168/$126.40 (Maven) worth of product.  I feel like this was definitely a winning month!  I have been so impressed with Julep so far.  I look forward to trying more great products in the future.

Hi friends!  I was so excited about my first Julep Maven box this month!  I got a lot of goodies and some nice surprises.

First the items that were my monthly subscription.  I swapped out the picks for:

IMG_0427The Julep Plie Wand and creativity kit.

I cannot wait to experiment with this! The long wand attaches to any Julep polish lid for more precision.  The wand comes with a normal brush as well.

The creativity kit has a thin brush for fine detail nail art and a dotting end.  I think I will be able to make some fun designs with these new tools!

Worth $35/$28 Maven

IMG_0428For my Maven Box, I received Nayley which is in the middle.  I bought Lucky as an add on and received Shawn as a free polish.  I love free.

These colours are great! I got glare on my swatches so I will try to add a swatch pic in at some point.

Worth$14/$11.20 Maven

IMG_0430Remember how much I adore Julep’s gel glider eye liner?  Well I got to the point where I had no point on my first one and thought, what now?  I tried to find a way to twist it up and there was none.  After a peek at the Julep site, I found there was a special sharpener.  This month it was an add on for only $5!  I am so happy to be able to use my liner again.

Worth $10/$8 Maven

My third add on was a polish corrector pen for only $4.  It will be handy for when I am experimenting with the plie wand and perfect for correcting polish that got onto the skin around the nail.

Worth $10/$8 Maven

Finally,IMG_0432 I had a really nice surprise.  Every time your order 3 add ons, you receive a free product!

Julep gave me an orbital eye shadow in terracotta.  It is gorgeous, very shimmery which I love.  I really love the packaging too.  The mirror is very handy.

Worth $18/$14.40 Maven

I may have a Julep addiction at this point! I love that we can modify products in our Maven boxes during the reveal period every month or choose to opt out completely for the month!  I am very impressed with all the free products I have received since I signed up and the beauty products are really good quality.  I have received many compliments on my Julep items.

Cupid Mystery Clutch with Major Mystery Add On Review

IMG_0335

Hi Friends.  I am just so excited that I had to put this post up!  My Cupid’s Mystery Clutch was not supposed to arrive until next week.  I have been brain dead sick all week so it was such a fantastic surprise to find my Julep box arrived today, just in time for Valentine’s Day.  Above is a glance at what was inside.

In addition to the cute for a night out black sequined clutch, I received the following polishes from left to right:

Yuki – adorable heart top coat

Valentina – cute metallic chevron top coat

Queene Anne – sparkly purple

Sandi – a rich purple

Elise – a dark navy

Shari – a pink tinted beige

I had used the code GETCOLOR to receive a free polish which was Elise.  I thought from the site it would be purple but it is a rich navy.  The other 5 came with the Cupid’s Mystery Clutch.

I had fun playing with my new polishes:

The thumb is Sandi with Yuki, Index finger is Queene Anne, Middle finger Elise, Ring finger, Sandi and the pinky is Shari with Valentina.

Now, I had seen other reviews and I had seen that the lip gloss was a dark wine colour and the eye glider was navy smoke.  This is what I was expecting and while I wouldn’t have hated them, they wouldn’t have been my first choice.  I am so impressed that Julep seems to honour the beauty profile, even on special orders.

I received an Olive Gel Eye Glider (I have green eyes!) and the gloss is a toned down pink in Splendid.  I love the gloss! One review I read said it smelled like cookies and it really does!  I will try not to eat it.

I also opted for a Major Mystery Add On.  I received this eye shadow brush along with the Neutrals sweep eye shadow palette.  The palette has a nice magnetic closure and I love the mirror.

The colours could not have been better matched to my skin tone, here are the eye shadows, lip gloss and eye liner swatched on my hand: (don’t mind my monkey pyjamas, like I said, I am sick so I needed my comfy pjs)

IMG_0338It is not too late to order your own Cupid’s Mystery Clutch.  You have until February 15th at 11:59 pm.  You can order it here.

So that was my Valentine’s Present from my hubby and I love it!  This was my first time gambling with a mystery box and I am so glad I did.  For about $37, I received $130 + whatever the value of the clutch at Maven pricing or $164+ at regular price.

Julep…the box I almost passed on!

Julep box

Hi Friends! Do you ever find you get an idea in your head that something will not be worth it so you just pass on it?  This was how I felt about Julep at first.  As you have noticed, I have entered the world of product reviews and beauty box subscriptions.   The beauty box subscriptions are part of my year of fabulous.  An opportunity to pamper myself and spend a little bit on myself for once.  When I was researching which beauty boxes I would try, I read a lot and I mean A LOT of reviews.  Julep was always mixed.  A lot of people balked at the the price ($24.99 a month for Maven or $39.99 for Maven Luxe) and I admit, the price turned me off a bit at first.  I figured I was not paying $24.99 a month for nail polish.  Case closed.

Then I got an awesome offer.

I have learned that poking around on these sites sometimes pays off.  I received an email a few days later inviting me to try Maven for free.  The box in the email had an eyeliner.  Just that morning, I was thinking I needed to find a good eyeliner and how I would have to fork out some dough for one that would meet my expectations.  I took this as a sign and placed my first (free) order.  I had to pay for shipping for this box only which was about $3.99 and, when I placed the order, I was able to add in a shade of polish for only $5 more.  For $8.99, I was going to receive over $60 worth of product.

I got the adorable box you see above just a few days after I placed my order.  I LOVE all the polishes.  The first photo is my first manicure with Julep.  The dark shade is Nic Bombshell and the ring finger is Shari Classic with a Twist.  I love they way they look together.   The second picture shows all the shades in the box: Candace It Girl, Nic Bombshell, Shari Classic with a Twist and Oscar It Girl.  The polishes give great coverage with only two coats and do not chip or peel.  I love the richness of the colours.

Julep nails Julep polish

I was really impressed with the gel glider eye liner.  It goes on smooth with no smudges and lasts all day.  I have very sensitive skin around my eyes so I cannot use a traditional eye pencil.  I find liquid liner runs too much on me.  This leaves me with limited options.  This gel liner is perfect.  In fact, as soon as I tried it, I had to check out their website to find out how to order it.

That was where my final pleasant surprise came in.  The box included a 50% off code for my first order on Julep.com.  I selected another jet black liner and the Go BIG Volumizing Mascara.  When I went to check out, I discovered that once again I had the option for add ons.  I was able to add another gel liner in graphite for only $5.99 and a 4 pack of buffer blocks for $2.99.  I assumed when I checked out, the discount would only apply to the main items but it was 50% off EVERYTHING.  They do not charge shipping so at the end of the day, I paid $20.49 for about $60 worth of product.  I cannot wait to get this order and try out my new items.

The best part about being a Julep Maven is getting access to all kinds of discounts and the Maven Secret Store.  The only catch is that you have to buy the next month’s box in return for getting your first one free.  After the first box, you have the option to opt out any month you do not wish to purchase a box.

The program is simple.  You complete a beauty profile and they put you in a category to start off.  Once your box is live, you can choose to edit it according to  your preferences.

I am really impressed with this company and I am so glad I gave being a Maven a chance.
