Dark IllusionDark Illusion by Dana Moison
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Dana Moison certainly titled this book appropriately!
It is truly a Dark Illusion in more ways than one.
This psychological thriller is a wild ride. Every time you think you have the story figured out, you are faced with a new twist!
Kelly Danes is an Editor in Chief for Inner Beauty Magazine which is ironic on it’s own as the story progresses. She has some peculiarities about her and a secret to hide.
Gloria McIntyre is a gorgeous model, some call her the most beautiful woman in the word.
Andy Swain is a photographer looking to make Gloria his muse.
Sharon Davis is a detective determined to solve the mystery behind a serial killer on the loose whose victims are all beautiful young women.
What could they possibly have in common?
Well I will not give anything away however this story is one that keeps you riveted, wanting to know what will happen next.
This story has it all, glamour, intrigue, betrayal, jealousy and murder.
Will Sharon have the answers before it’s too late?
Dark Illusion is an edge of your seat read that you will enjoy from cover to cover.

Goodreads Review: Blind Mission by Avichai Schmidt

Blind Mission: A Thrilling Espionage NovelBlind Mission: A Thrilling Espionage Novel by Avichai Schmidt
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I love a good espionage book.
Blind Mission really delivered everything I like in a solid espionage novel.
I found every answer raised even more questions in this tale as we follow Dan Greenberg on one roller coaster of a journey upon finding that he has no ID, no car and is a wanted man – in more ways than one.
I love that this book allowed the reader to make connections without spoon feeding the plot. There are times where at first you may not be sure which character is being talked about and then you get the aha moment when you realize again they are talking about Dan.
Dan is a master of disguise, escape and he is incredibly resourceful.
When you realize who is pulling the strings, you understand the importance of Dan’s mission and wonder if he would have played into their hands had he known the identity of his puppet master.
At times, you start to wonder who is playing whom.
Dan, it appears, may be more than the organization bargained for.
For lots of twists and turns and an altogether great tale of espionage, Blind Mission does not disappoint.

Goodreads Review Shane Hall’s Reverb

Reverb (Feedback, #2)Reverb by Shane Hall
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Shane Hall has once again blown my mind with the second installment of the Feedback Series.
I am left waiting for book 3 in eager anticipation!
We pick right up with where we left off in Book 1: Impulse. I strongly recommend you read that first because you need to background information to get enjoyment out of Reverb.
I really enjoyed the character development. Characters that we had glimpses of in Impulse were revealed in Reverb.
The book is a quick read and very enjoyable. It is fast paced and full of some interesting twists and turns. Just when you think you have something or someone figured out, you are turned sideways with startling realizations and unexpected events.
One thing I really commend Hall on is not forgetting his premise. We are reminded of the fact that the characters live in a soundless world again and again in a very natural way which keeps the reader tied to the plot lines.
For an entertaining read, I highly recommend the Feedback series. You will enjoy the ride!

GoodRead Review: Oasis by Dima Zales

Oasis (The Last Humans, #1)Oasis by Dima Zales
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

If you were to ask me what my favourite genre of book to read is, hands down it would be dystopian.
I was hooked from the very beginning of the novel when we meet Theo and he is not sure if he is going insane, has an imaginary friend or some sort of ghost talking in his ear and reading his thoughts all of the time named Phoe, pronounced “Fi”.
The book takes the reader on so many twists and turns, it is hard to put down. I read it in one day because I just had to know what was happening next!
The premise is that they live in Oasis. The Earth has been destroyed due to the rapidly advancing technology that society could not keep up with and has become The Goo, a jello like terrain that does not look appetizing at all. The people in Oasis are the only survivors and have found a better way to live thanks to nanocytes.
There are Youths, Adults and Elders and you become an adult at 40. There is no swearing, vulgarity and you do not ask questions as that will earn you some time in Quietude in the Witch’s Prison.
Zales has carefully crafted an incredible world that becomes more and more fascinating as you work your way through the story.
By the end, I was absolutely stunned at the truth of Oasis and I was left wanting so much more of these characters and the story.
I will definitely be checking out the next installment of Oasis!

Goodreads Review: A Planned Coincidence by Dana Arama

Planned Coincidence: A Thrilling Suspense Novel (International Mystery & Crime)Planned Coincidence: A Thrilling Suspense Novel by Dana Arama
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This novel kept me enthralled from beginning to end!
The story begins with Gabi, a vibrant woman who is feeling as if her marriage is going through the motions and a loving mother.
Her family owned an Art Gallery which she has taken over and her husband never celebrates her successes, only reminds her how costly the gallery is.
One day, Gabi makes a choice that she later believes changed her life forever. As we read on, we learn that there is so much Gabi does not know.
This story has everything. Mystery, intrigue, Russuan Mafia and passion.
As Gabi works to rebuild her life with the help of Guy, a young man willing to do anything to protect her, we find that nothing was quite as it seemed.1
I loved every moment of this book but the end left me wanting so much more!
It is my hope that Arama will write a sequel to this. Arama is such a talented author. The characters are so real and the plot twists have been expertly spun.
This novel will not disappoint, it is full of mystery and intrigue.

Goodreads Review: Trouble in Paradise by Lyle Howard

Trouble in ParadiseTrouble in Paradise by Lyle Howard
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I love a good mystery. I love venturing into the world of what if.
I am also very amused by the stories that start with an idea that someone has left a certain aspect of their life behind them and then the universe brings them a scenario where they have to use their knowledge from the past to get through a current situation. I believe that once we have a skill, we can never quite “let it lie” as we move forward in life.
The start of the novel had me hooked, it was so mysterious and left you wanting to know more.
Howard is a very talented author and I thoroughly enjoyed this adventure into “What if”
A mysterious vessel, missing patrons, the plot has so many twists and turns that you simply must read it to the end.

Goodreads Review: The Dreadful Alchemist by Charles Z David

The Dreadful AlchemistThe Dreadful Alchemist by Charles Z David
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book was a whirlwind. While it is not my usual genre, with everything happening in the news these days, this book felt quite real.
The premise is focussed on Ollie, a Swedish man who goes to join the Islamic Stat fanatics. There is so much intrigue, action and double crossing plot twists that you will find yourself immersed from start to finish.
The book is definitely not for the faint of heart or younger readers as it outlines graphic violence and sexual situations but is a thrilling ride for those up to the challenge.
With nuclear warfare that sounds all too plausible in this day and age and complex characters, there is lots in this book to entertain any reader.

Fire in a Haystack: A Thrilling Novel (Legal Mystery Book Book 1)Fire in a Haystack: A Thrilling Novel by Erez Aharoni
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Erez Aharoni has delivered a fully enthralling mystery.
I found myself hooked from the prologue.
The story centers around Ofer Angel who has not had what one would call an easy life.
We first meet Ofer as he learns his father is dead, supposedly having taken his own life.
Fast forward 10 years later to Ofer who is now an intern at a prestigious law firm. He is tasked with keeping tabs on a witness for a very important case. One of my favourite moments was when Ofer realizes that his charge is someone whose facial hair he vowed to pluck one by one when he saw him at his father’s funeral.
Full of twists and turns, you will find this story hard to put down.
Ofer must race against the clock to find a cure to a disease he has been infected with, learn who is framing him and just plain survive!
This is one thrill ride you will be glad you went on!

Codename: Zosha: A Communist Jewish espionage novelCodename: Zosha: A Communist Jewish espionage novel by Yehudit Kafri
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was a very moving read. I found myself feeling emotional as I read this biography but Yehudit Kafri. Kafri is incredibly talented and really knows how to keep the reader engaged while tugging at all the right heart strings. This is far from a light read. I found myself pausing to reflect on Zosha’s experiences. What a courageous woman.. I found myself fascinated by her character and strength.
I am so glad that I picked up this novel and learned about Zosha. She truly was a heroine! To learn of a woman so courageous, not afraid to push past all her challenges and fight for her beliefs, was very empowering!
This was an emotional glimpse into Israel and there is no surprise that it was awarded the 2004 prize for top literary achievement, by the Society of Authors, Composers and Music Publishers in Israel (ACUM).
For a very thought provoking read, I recommend Codename: Zosha

Tender: A Contemporary Fiction NovelTender: A Contemporary Fiction Novel by Shai Amit

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed this novel by Shai Amit. There is no denying this author is overflowing with talent.
From the first page, I was drawn in. The storyline was compelling and the characters were very real.
I found this read to be refreshing. Amit’s style is unique and I found myself stopping at times to take in the nuances of the writing.
This is a story of self discovery and recovery. We follow Amit, the main character from early beginnings throughout his life and the experiences he has. We follow him from Tel Aviv to Amsterdam to New York. The story is full of excitement and passion and yet it digs deeper and pulls at your emotions.
While reading, you may find yourself reflecting on your own choices and how they have affected your life.
I look forward to reading more by Amit.
